But someone should kill whoever had this fucking idea.
Probably the smartest thing I've seen here so far. Seriously, a Metal Gear movie has "fucking disaster" written all over it. Have you learned nothing from Resident Evil, Doom, Silent Hill, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Wing Commander (do any of you even remember that movie?), Tomb Raider, Dead Or Alive, Hitman, Double Dragon, Super Mario Brothers, or Uwe Boll's constant stream of absolute shit? Video game movies always lead up to absolute failure. Note that I'm not counting Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within because frankly, that had nothing at all to do with Final Fantasy. It was an excuse for Square to show off some fancy new animation software.
Let's also keep in mind that rumours of a Metal Gear film have been flying around all willy-nilly since before Sons Of Liberty came out.

No offence Hecc but you sound like you're not interested in a movie if it's "mainstream" or not Japanese. Hitman was good and the resident evil movies were worth watching. Yes most movies based on games are shit and yes I wouldn't want to see such a good story butchered but on the off chance they get this right, I think its a risk worth taking. It certainly makes me feel better about this that the director of Equilibrium is on it.
Also yes Sean Bean was born to play the role of liquid but Christian Bale as snake? I'm not so sure.
That is one badass baby.

Haha what
I never actually played the game, but I'm fairly certain that the only people who like the movie are the ones who played the game. The story seemed fairly decent, but that actor... he was just awful. All the bald-headed actors were awful. Yeah, they looked really nice, but that was it.

And Timothy Olyphant sounded nothing like 47, which I found quite jarring. I didn't have a problem with his acting, but just the fact he sounded nothing like 47.

Considering the things I hear about the WoW servers, a porn movie would be a better idea.

Yes. Let's make faceless assumptions about people's character based on....nothing. At all. Please see the Movie Theater forum where you can read words in which I speak strongly of such "not at all mainstream" and "totally Japanese" movies as:
Transformers
I Am Legend
The Dark Knight
Pirates Of The Caribbean
Sweeney Todd
And all sorts of other left-field art house flicks. Oh shit did you see "Wall-E"? What an amazing underground left-field Japanese cult movie that was. No wonder it's one of my favourite movies of the year so far.
Seriously, no. What the fuck gives you the impression that I like Japanese ANYTHING? And when have I ever decried the virtues of mainstream cinema? I liked "Kung Fu Panda" for fuck's sake.
In fairness with regards to Silent Hill, I think what killed it for me was basically being able to create a mental map in my head to 90% of the locations in the movie. It was filmed mostly in the city I was living in at the time, and partially in the town I grew up in. (The newspaper office that what's-her-name breaks into: The Brantford Expositor. You can read the "Expositor" part of the sign while she breaks in.) It completely pulled me out of the atmosphere. That, and the stiff acting, and the flat-out retarded ending.
And again, let's not lose sight of the fact that we've heard things tossed around about a Metal Gear movie for about eight or nine years, and nothing--not even something as simple as a script--has surfaced. I really have my doubts that it will ever happen, and I'd like it if my favourite gaming franchise ever didn't get sullied by a sub-par movie.

I still don't see what was so bad about it. Was his acting too, erm, what's the word, not-portraying-much-emotion?
Oh, Heccubus, go easy. It's just from that list you look like you're shooting down a lot of American mainstream movies. The opposite of American mainstream is...
