Which is pretty much a description of a university! Sure, you have to get in based on previous qualifications, but that's just a guarantee that you won't need to spend endless hours teaching the basics before getting onto what you're really there for.
And believe it or not, A-levels take exams somewhat beyond parroting of trivia -- a genuine understanding of what you're talking about is handy. GCSEs are just a hurdle to eliminate the violent awesomedomers to which you refer.

"Mein Hut hat drei Ecken" somehow reminds me of a stupid little song, which is often used by teachers to inflict an enormous mental damage in the minds of their pupils. Well, I don't know how Yahtzee got to know this psychological weapon, but if it really was because of this song, then I can understand his disaproval of education.

I'm being guilted into being a rich accountant type accountant person, so some of the business classes are accualy teaching me something. But I agree, having the half dome thing would not only build a good cultural/scientifical base , but also build a great military recruitment farm of strong bloodthirsty psycos.

In the same vein, I only went to sixth form to a.) achieve the latter b.) get into the pants of this girl I fancied throughout the process. Ironically enough, I did, but to my... but this is irrelevant.
By and large, education as it is sucks. You learn nothing you need to know in Maths beyon about... ooh, shall we say Year Nine? Who really needs to know how to differentiate an algebraic formula, save a professional mathmatician? What does a professional mathmatician do, anyway? Why am I coming up with clever stuff like this here, rather than updating my own website? Why? Why? WHY?
Incidently, I never learned how to do HTML in school, and its been more bloody useful for me than finding out how Bosola develops as a character in "The Duchess of Malfi". Hey, Yahtzee's right again! DAMNIT MAN! STOPPIT!
What were we talking about, again?

At least, that's how it's been for me...
NOTE: I have no idea what sixth form is.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

I found school got a lot better in years 11 and 12. Seeing as it was now optional, all the dickheads left and the teachers got a lot more relaxed. Uni is even more relaxed, to the point that I tend to forget about my assignments. Oh, and Chyld, differentiation is used all the time in the physical sciences. Hell, I find that if I don't know what to do in a physics question, just differentiate it for some marks. It's probably what you were supposed to do anyway.

Maybe it's just me, or the fact that I was a bit destructive every now and then when I was little...

Also, upon further thought, the most significant thing I have gotten out of my education so far is the ability to BS my way through projects and assignments, doing just enough to get by with a decent grade without putting any kind of real thought or effort into it. I only hope that I can unlearn that which has been ingrained in me for many years
