the bourne supremacy...
what's next, the Italian promotion???
what the hells going on?
I haven't seen these movies, but it seems to me a very strange pattern...
holywood writer: I'm out of ideas
holywood producer: let's just remake something then...
holywood writer: works for me
holywood producer: ...and that's a rap!
holywood writer: wait i've got an idea for a new film!!!
holywood producer: too risky... people don't want new! let's just do a sequel to thatwe did, that should work enough...
holywood writer: cool!!! i won't have to think of any character names that way!!!
holywood producer: I know, I didn't get this job for taking risks you know!
annyone else agree, or fear this?
i don't mean to be cynical... i just seems like an odd thing to do...
-----------------------------------------------------------
on another note... there are alot of cheap movies out there, low budget action/sci-fi/etc. movies, made for TV movies, that have really cool stories but are just too cheap to watch...
what if money was poored into remaking those? that would be worthwile project don't you think?

What is bad is that there isn't anything original to go with it. It would be fine if each week we got a Bourne Supremacy, or I, Robot, or Ocean's Twelve, if it was accompanied by a cool, original story. But what's unfortunate is that most of what comes out of Hollywood that is NOT a remake or sequel sucks. It is very hard to come up with a good original idea, and even harder to execute it. So the thing is, sequels and remakes, since they provide the basic story, usually come out BETTER than other films, leading to a vicious cycle of more sequels and remakes until almost no one in hollywood has an original idea in his head. So it's not odd. Just unfortunate.

But the Bourne books are numerous, so that one is hardly apt. They knew when they made the first one that it would be a test case to see whthe they should make a series.
ITALIAN PROMOTION.... <chuckle>.

THE ITALIAN INTERVIEW AND CALLBACK?
Yes to what you say about sequels to remakes. Just plain psychotic. First time I noticed this was THE FLY II (so awful and sugar-sweet even the fly himself wouldn't eat it).

Well I think the reason they make sequals is because they know the public are going to go nuts when they find out they're favorite movie has a sequal coming out...
Thats why I like to watch indpendent films most of the time. Like Bubba-Ho-Tep, which is good, but I mainly watched it because Bruce Campbell stars in it.

The Great Train
The Stepford Girlfriends
Glen
Hello Mr Chips
The Hard-to-See Man
Scent of a Girl (look for this in the Porn thread as well)
And since we're breaking out from remakes-only:
Little Hannah and her Pregnant Mum.

One movie trend I can remember very clearly was the year of doubles. Somehow, they made two versions of each movie...
Dante's Peak and Inferno
A Bugs Life and Antz
Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line
Deep Impact and Armageddon
It's like seeing double when you're sober.

Ok, fine. Not the same movie. Not the same summer. CE3K was released as SW was still in some theaters. Just wanted to credit 77/78 as being a breakthrough period for science fiction in film. And Johnny Williams took a tie for best soundtrack oscar between the two, I believe.
while I'm off the mark,
Sun Classics presents In search of Noah's Ark and the Bermuda Triangle. (and also some Mysterious Monsters film and a Bigfoot pic while we're at it. oh yeah, The Lincoln Conspiracy.) This was as close to Lucas' serials of yesteryear as I got.
Never Say Never Again and Octopussy?
The Passion of the Christ and that other movie about Jesus?
Doubles are great. Sometimes on Saturday Cartoons, All Three networks would have new shows and promotions revolved arouning the cause celebre. Sharks, outer space, dinosaurs. There are tons of resources on the web to view these old ads and schedules if you're interested.
