Reason 17 NT references to OT

In reason 17 Chef Elf writes:
"I refuse to believe that that is the case after spending the past six years seeing a baby Greedo, Chewbacca, the Tantive IV, Death Star plans and a ten year old Boba Fett. The only thing that surprises me is that the Millennium Falcon does not sweep across the foreground followed by a scene where a five-year-old Lando Calrissian loses the ship to a five-year-old Solo in a game of sabaac."
I watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade last night. That movie was written by George Lucas. The Last Crusade is the final Indiana Jones movie and the movie begins with a flashback of young Indy played by River Phoenix.
The reason I bring this up is that in about a 10 minute span of time Young Indy 1) develops his fear of snakes, 2) learns how to use a whip for the first time, 3) cuts his chin right where Harrison Ford has his scar, and 4) gains posession of his trademark hat.
I agree with Chef Elf that the constant "wouldn't it be neat" philosophy of the PT turns my stomach, but I did not have any problem with very similar things in Indiana Jones last night. I actually found myself thinking that these scenes were cool.
It made me think hard about my hatred for the PT. I have often considered that I saw Indiana Jones and the OT when I was young and George Lucas' style appealed to me and that when I rewatch them I remember that joy fondly and it isnt the actual movies that I am enjoying. Whereas, I saw the 3 PT movies when I was older and had no patience for Lucas pandering to the young.

All I know about Indiana Jones 4 is here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0367882/
At the moment it doesn't really look like it's going to see the light of day any time soon.
I enjoyed The Last Crusade. Last time I watched it (2-3 years ago) I thought it had faint hints of the "New Lucas" absurdity that I hadn't noticed earlier. So it's tough to discern whether my fondness for the movie is from seeing it as a youngster when it frist came out or because it is ACTUALLY good. ONe thing is for sure, it's leaps and bounds better than Temple of Doom.
I liked the opening sequence of Crusade. It does define a number of Indy traits in one 10 minute sequence but I'm a big fan of the 10 minute flashback prequel effect. I think prequels, for the most part, are better shown in a "cool" 10 minute burst than in a seven hour boredom fest like the PT. So I think there's a big difference between a brief peek into the past of a character and a painfully long look at it. In the end we still already know the ending.

this is just proof that lucas is awsome when he WORKS WITH OTHER PEOPLE!!!!
in that opening ten minutes we also establish where his nickname came from, his father, etc. we actually get quite a bit on him.
leave lucas in charge...
6-7 hours of film and what do we get?
-greedo picked on vader as a kid.
-vader made C3P0
-yoda was buddies with chewbacca
-bobba fett had a dad
-princess lieas mother was also a princess, but it was just a coincidence
-the mother she remembers as a kid was someone else
-beru was HOT
-X-wings used to be *-wings
but nothing else

This isn't that difficult. During the first ten minutes of The Last Crusade, we get an interesting story about the young Indiana Jones, that economically explains several things in the earlier movies without contradicting anything in them. Compare and contrast to anything in the Star Wars prequels.
Also, while Raiders of the Lost Ark is a fun movie, its just not a classic the same way the original Star Wars was. You can take more liberties with it.

Boba Fett's dad is not only HIS father, but the father of ALL (or the vast majority of) the Stormtroopers!
Leia's mother was a queen, who owned R2D2.
Threepio worked for Anakin & his mom, for the Lars family, and for Anakin & his wife, before he went back to the Lars family again in the classic movies!
They serve Jawa Juice at Coruscant diners.
Obi-Wan, a guy who grew up on Coruscant, uses the phrase "wild Bantha chase" (Banthas are from Tatooine, right?).
But don't forget the Emperor and Luke & Leia's mom are from the same planet and were both Senators of the Old Republic.

Isn't jango really the Identical twin of Boba, and all of the stormtroopers?
The tossing around of this word "father" appeals to the warm and fuzzy in JEDI, but Jango? Even if it is (the new standard revised version) canon about the stormtroopers, it's nothing to get excited about.
