House M.D.'s fifth season ended and I'll have to wait till September for more. Bummer.

But oh well, there are still some other shows, most of which I haven't bothered to check out yet. So I thought I might ask you people on your thoughts and opinions on whatever you're watching or not watching right now.

Apart from House, I still watch Heroes, and I talked about it in some other threads already: The story is unintentionally becoming funnier with each episode and the characters' quirks and powers still interest me, though they could tone down the unbelievable melodrama a bit more. But then again, that also adds into the fun factor, I guess.

And then there's The Mentalist... I'm still not sure why I keep watching it. It's House applied to CSI, but somewhere something just went terribly wrong. The background story is extremely thin, the individual episodes follow a weak pattern as well, the character's are only half-baked and hardly lovable and the main catch - the stuff regarding mental acuity - boils down to the good ol' Sherlock Holmes syndrome. The protagonist just knows, because some writer was too lazy to create a realistic scenario. Though I have to admit that I couldn't do it better, but still. Something's just missing.

So what are your thoughts? Any other shows worth watching out there? I meant to check out the Sarah Connor Chronicles some time, since I'm a sucker for Terminator related stuff anyway, but so far didn't get to it - is it worth the time?

Chuck is pretty great... it's a bit strange and can be over the top at times, but I love it to pieces. Check it out if you have time.

Well... that certainly was... interesting. Whacky, borderline zany, but interesting. Think I'll watch the next four episodes and see how it goes on, it does have some weird potential, I guess. And if they include more dress-up scenes of that blonde girl then I'm sold either way.

I also took a look at Dexter's first season. Not really sure whether I want to see more, the concept seems alright but watching dark grisly murder and all that drama surrounding all those demented personalities isn't exactly my idea of relaxation and fun while watching TV... I guess I prefer dorky humor


Edit: I also keep noticing shows with... awkward names. True Blood and The Vampire Diaries? The heck is up with that? I mean, apart from the obvious trying-to-cash-in-on-the-whole-Twilight-topic thing, which makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective, but still... well I guess it's true what psychology's 101 suggested about people who are interested in stories about bloodsucking...

Seriously though, I'm glad you like it... it's one of the only returning shows that I'm actually anticipating. Most TV now is very 'meh' to me. (I stopped watching House because I haven't really been happy with it since it switched up the cast, and the only reason I was staying was because I thought Kutner was awesome.)

The only other show I've really been watching (unless you count cartoons...) is Glee, because I like music and the first episodes have been pretty good so far. It's definitely not for everyone though, so if you hate stuff like choirs and singing you will definitely hate the show.

Actually, I've been browsing for a good show to tide me over unitl September when all my favourites re-commence.
I tried:

V (blah - humanity is portrayed as a bunch of sissies who suddenly started to believe in good intentions)
Vampire diaries - oh no, not ANOTHER show that starts near the high school lockers
True blood - I do not fancy quite graphical protrayal of sex in my daytime TV - hence never watched much Califormication or Rome
Ghost Whisperer - gee, could not go past the first 10 minutes as the little girl telling the grieving wife that the deceased bloke loved here was barf-inducing
Weeds - that proved too much like reality
Nurse Jackie - OMG, how depressing

Anyone has a good tip for me? I seem to suffer from excessively short attention time, I need something that is breathtaking from minute one. Or at least watchable.

Tudors

Great show indeed. I love the dialogue and realism. The actors and actresses are more handsome than the historical characters they portrait, but no matter, that Anne Boleyn was fucking hot! I also like how modern thinking and ideals never find their way into the script. My favourite such moment was when the Duke of Suffolk was having a conversation with his young son. The son asked his father what it was like killing other men in battle. The Duke replied "I thought nothing of it, they were my enemies, I forget about them". I was half expecting him to give some wish washy speech about how you die a bit every time you take a life.

Madmen

This show intrigues me. Half the time it bores me and the other half I'm curious. I like the industry and fashion portrayed of the early 60s, what I would give to have women like that in my office. I know it's sexist but it looked like fun times.

Frasier

I've held to the position since the mid 90's that this show was shit. When it came on, I'd change the channel immediately, like any other shit sitcom it bored me immensely. A few months ago I was sitting on my couch, and the show came on, I was naked, the changer was not near me, and I was comfortable. Virtue came from laziness that evening, as I watched the show I realized how funny NILES CRANE is, I love that guy. I began downloading entire seasons, and eventually fell for all the main characters. Niles is an awesome sitcom character and I'm ashamed in my harsh initial and long term hatred for the show.

Jersey Shore, anybody watch it? The second season is shaping up to be even more rediculous than the first, and I'm excited. We're betting on who has the major coke binge and burnout, my first guess is The Situation, but my second guess is all of them

I forgot about Mad Men, I also watched the pilot and I had to switch it off. I was about to smash the screen then the main character told his female client "I will not allow a woman to speak to me like that"
Jeyzus H. Christ. I know it is SUPPOSED to show things which are not longer there but sadly, not for me. Throughout my professional life I had to struggle with so much of this attitude, and thank you very much, it is no pleasure for me to see it in my spare time.

About Tudors, I agree, the show is pleasing to the eye, and you are right, they are all freaking hot. NOW WAY Henry VIII looked like that, he was fat later on in his life and repulsive. What I am missing in the show is a bit of more historical details, I beleiver Henry VIII not only had sex with his various subjects and fought wars, but also ruined the economy of England at that time. But I saw all season I, might watch more.

Actually, I saw three episodes of Lie to Me and thank you very much SUpes, it is now officially another of my favourite shows. Will check Frasier, Jersey Shore and Chuck later on.

My Lord I wish we got Mock the Week over here in the States. Its a comedy panel show on BBC 2. I can't even get a quarter of the jokes because I don't live in Briton and its still a laugh riot.

I recently watched an anime called Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne that aired a couple of years ago. Its only 1 season comprised of six 45 minute episodes of damn good entertainment. It basically has everything you could want. It does have good humor, a mix of mythologies, story, action, moral issues, etc. I actually liked the voice acting in both Japanese and English, and that very rarely happens with me (I generally prefer one or the other depending on the series). This isn't for the faint of heart however. There are a few f-ed up moments and the last episode is just a smidge confusing. There's some sex in it, but its cartoon sexand generally kept short/tasteful. There's also a damn decent amount of gore.
