Saw it a week ago. (the unchanged 1977, 1995 THX version.)
It's even better now that it's no longer sanctioned.
What's with the first edit of Empire? the Luke/Leia kiss?
Thanks for presenting the '77 poster, SW is us.http://despondent.home.mindspring.com/vhsbox.jpg
edit: Sorry the box spines are out of sequence.
I saw it in 1977 the week it opened on the screen it was intended to be seen on.
I have to admit all the times I have seen Star Wars since on small screens can't hold a candle to how it looks in a real theatre. I catch it now and again to try to recapture the magic of it all but I can't.
I still have my program too packed away with a copy of People Magazine with the gold robot on the cover July 18, 1977, some old Starlogs, a comic book, and other period magazine articles. I bet you'd wet yourself over all of that huh? Someone in another thread mentioned the 12" laserdisc version I've seen that repeatedly. We liked running the Deathstar blowing up in reverse it was funny to watch it go together. Oh yeah I read the Star Wars book before the movie even came out. I still have that laying around someplace too I think. I wonder what the program would be worth selling it today? It's in OK condition it has been in a box with some other papers I have saved over the years, Like the NY Times of the first men walking on the Moon you know junk like that.
If there is any interest maybe I could scan the handbill program I have. I've never
really seen another like it. Here's one page of it:
http://home.comcast.net/~pcf1/SW-2.jpgOh yeah once I even saw the original artwork the movie poster was made from.
The brothers Hildebrandt had an art show in town once and it was there. I think they wanted $20,000 for it at the time. I couldn't quite swing that so I bought some other litho they were offering not Star Wars related. Did anyone here know that they painted that painting overnite together one started at one side one at the other and they met in the middle.
http://www.brothersh...ges/newhope.jpgHeck and all these years I thought the movie's name was simply Star Wars?
Since when did this new hope crap come about? Anyhow i think Lucas has been playing too many video games based on his previous works having just seen Revenge of the Sith. That's how I landed on this website his 92 reasons to hate the movie I thought of one more. I've seen better GFX in video games than the opening sequences of that movie! Bring back the model animations!
