I regretfully announce the introduction of ads to chefelf.com. For nearly four years Lance & Eskimo / Chefelf.com / FullyRamblomatic.com have brought entertainment to our small little community relatively ad-free. Recently, however, the cost of maintaining the Lance & Eskimo and Friends server has reached a boiling point. Paul and I, even before moving to New York, were beginning to reach months where the extra bandwidth charges were becoming prohibitive. In order to bring in a little revenue to curb the cost of the server we have decided to start running ads on more major parts of the site.

Less popular sites (i.e. Vegeta Girl, Lewgosset Musk, etc. have been displaying ads for a while. Unfortunately the revenue generated by these sites hardly covers anything.

I have tried to make the ads as unobtrusive as possible and hope that no one objects to them. I guess it's a positive thing as the sites (Chefelf.com Night Life in particular) have become fairly popular. The Night Life has really grown beyond anything I thought it would as it initially started out as an experiment in testing out this forum software that I was interested in. Nearly a year later we are very active and have lots of great posts and users!

Anyway, leave me any suggestions you may want on how the ads can be improved upon or any complaints about them. I'll try to address anyone's needs that I can, however, the server costs must be kept to a minimum to keep all the sites going!

No-one wants you paying an arm and a leg to keep our happy little community going... so if you need adds, then we'll have adds.

However, I've seen them already on the site and honestly, they don't intrude at all.

Do you think they're too big? I have a my resolution set HUGE but if you think they're too big perhaps I can shrink them a bit.

Nope, these ads aren't bad at all! As long as they stay small little banners like that, I'll be fine.

Those are the first ads I have ever seen that are not in the way.

Well, the banners are huge right now (728x90 Leaderboard). If people object I can always downsize to standard 468x60 banners. I can pretty much put any size ads I want... the Google Ads are really cool that way.

A nice thing is that they're targeted for the most part. Check out The Star Wars Forum. Neat.

They aren't a bother at all. How exactly do those work? I've never ran a site myself. Do they pay you a certain amount each month to have ads up, or do you get money when people click them?

Nicole: I think the standard pricing for banner ads is 1 cent for every 10 clicks, but Google ads might work differently. I actually don't know. I should just keep my mouth shut and my fingers still.

I'd be curious to know. If I click an ad ten times, he gets a penny? That seems like it could take awhile to amount to much, but perhaps more people click ads than I realize.

We get paid per click. It's a very small amount of money but given the traffic on this site, LNE and FR.com it should add up to a little bit of money at least.
