Xbox got Spawn (for some reason)
GameCube got Link
And the PS2 got stuck with Heihachi Mishima from Tekken who was easily one of the worst characters in the game (SC2, not Tekken)
Namco seems pretty adept at this point when it comes to pissing off the people who like the franchise, but don't have the money to buy every console available as well as multiple copies of the game. One would hope that if they're smart, they'll make the character not immediately available to unlock on the console available as a download or something.
EDIT: Wrote "Soul Calibur 3" instead of 2 for some reason.

Well for the sake of those who've gone ahead and plunked down cash for the newer consoles, I'd hope so. And it makes sense, considering it's an easy way to make another quick buck off of one of their flagship franchises.

Oh and Hecc, you said "for some reason" that Xbox got Spawn, well look at his main color scheme, it's minimal white on basic black with green eyes, and the first Xbox console was green and black.
As for the choice of Heihachi for the PS2 version, I guess because he wears black and the PS2 is black... I dunno, they could have picked anyone else, at least someone that uses a weapon.
And the Gamecube version used Link only because of it's marketing value. I never saw any GC's with a green and white covering, just purple and black. And there are no characters in the Nintendo universe wearing purple except Wario or Gravity Suit wearing Samus.
This is all just speculation though...

Tekken's a popular, PS2 exclusive fighting game. They wanted to attract PS2 fighting fans. Go with a guy from Tekken.
Gamecube fans love link.
As for Spawn, I think it's because XBox fans wanted to think of themselves as more dark and gritty than the other two consoles. Hence Spawn.
PM me, we'll talk.

I was thinking this a bit also because of Tekken's history only in arcades and only on PS consoles, so yeah, that works, the same for GC and Link. Your Spawn theory has merrit, but put into perspective with Yoda and Vader, would the Xbox 360 be the Light side of gaming while the PS3 is the Dark side?
