Some sort of love triangle would have made SO much more sense than what we see in ROTS. I've seen some screen caps that look very much like Obi-Wan about to kiss padme. I can't tell if they're from missing scenes of that very thing or if they're just grabbed to look that way.
See Chefelf in a Movie! -> The People vs. George Lucas

Padme's a bad bad girl, and the only solution to this problem of intergalactic proportions is for her to put on the Leia slave outfit and take a position across my knees to get her justly deserved spanking.......
One of the rumors regarding ROTS before its release was some sort of love triangle where Obi Wan and Padme face some kind of danger that draws them together (where have we seen THAT before?) and then Anakin unites with them and all hell breaks loose, Palpatine having a hand in it all along somehow. Would have made sense. Obi Wan just barely completed his own training before taking on an older Padawan learner and he didn't face his trials yet, so the seeds were there for something like that to take place. How he goes frombeing a wet behind the ears teenager to a full fledged hardass who seems to be #3 or soon to be in the Jedi order is beyond me.

Maybe Luke is Obi's father! They could add that as a twist ending for Episode VII!
No wait, nobody wants more SW movies. (Unless Irvin Keshner directs them.)

Too bad Lucas couldn't have had an inferiority complex - then he'd always have gone out of his way to secure people who are more talented than he is.
Imagine a Star Wars film helmed by a James Cameron, a Ridley Scott, a Francis Ford Coppola, a John Carpenter or a Richard Donner... if only Lucas had been insecure enough to always reach for the better men (and yes, I know all those men have had their flops but even so they usually look better than Lucas's junk).
I am the Fisher King.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

I think what Obi wan meant was:
Padme, I'm not the father, am I? I'de better not be. You said those were quality condoms!
