Its the ones I would buy if I ahd extra cash that wasnt being used on a girlfriend or college.
Ha.
You could get them for a mere $12 or $16, depending on whether you wanted the LD bonus disc.

Just my $0.02. Keep in mind that this is only based on what experts have told me (notely: Rikter Blacksvn) and I haven't actually seen all of the different versions.
I would rate the TR47 versions at a higher quality than my old VHS versions. I purchased three different versions of the VHS trilogy.

You have to take into account the costs.
time taken out of the day to burn DVDs
+
cost of high quality DVDs
+
shipping
+
(and not the least, the effort, money, and days spent transferring the movies from LaserDisc and any cleanup/editing efforts needed to be done)
=
all in all not that bad of a price for the original movies since Lucas will never release them again

You're not paying for materials. You are paying for the service and times it takes to provide you with a set. If you don't agree with this practice, then don't purchase it-it's that simple. It is definately not a "con", and I can provide email addresses from hundreds of satisfied fans who will testify to that fact.

If you knew more about it, you might think differently. One group right now has invested in a $7000 laser disc player simply because the high quality system is able to get a much better transfer of the films than less quality players. That is a major investment.
Even for folks doing it with cheaper LD players, first you have to invest in one, and they aren't cheap, then you need to find someone willing to part with LaserDiscs of the OT. It's not that big of a deal to cover those sorts of costs. There are people on EBay who would charge $100 for a set that some of these folks are selling for $12-16.
