Why does it take Luke ONE hit to put the most powerful Dark Lord of the Sith out of commission? He only cuts off his hand! And it was a robotic hand, not even a real one! This makes no sense.
Short circuit, baby.
The mishaps of a robotic body.

It seemed to me Vader was having massive problems breathing before Luke sliced his hand off.

Or... maybe the pain stimulus of his robotic arm being sliced off awakened the long lost Anakin inside of him, thus, he became a wuss. Again.

One thing I didn't really understand is why Vader gets down on one knee and clings to the railing. Did he trip over his cape or something? Luke certainly didn't push him back or cut his leg or anything.
I noticed that too. He falls on purpose. I always laugh at that scene.

It was supposed to show just how far past Vader Luke had come in his training. In Empire, Vader fought Luke with ease because Luke was still a student. But by the time Jedi rolled around, Luke was the master and had bar surpassed Vader.
As well, I think it was done also to show the absolute fury of Luke - taking him very close to the Darkside - Luke always was a Jedi that was rough around the edges and more prone to anger than the Jedi's of old. Vader could not handle the onslaught.
I kind of liked it actually.

I loved the fight, I just don't understand why Vader is defeated just because he gets his hand sliced off.
The Infinities comic does a good job of making Vader more of a badass in ROTJ. He still fights without a hand, even hitting Luke once or twice.
