Looks too much like the ship from Flight of the Navigator

That's the problem. The past is WAY more advanced in the future, and do they have that 'lived in' feeling that the old ships have. I guess maybe GL's 'creative vision' is this far...

Naboo was supposed to represnt the "more civilised age" that Obi Wan mentions in ANH.

I think the Queen's ship could've used a little more "jibblies" on it. I can't describe it. I'll draw something I have in mind and post it later....
But, like I've said before, if the story and characters had been better, I would be A-OK with this design.

The Naboo yellow ships were not terribly exciting, either.
and, you guessed it. I hated the command module/surface module of AOTC.
Yes. not much positive to chime in here. It's interesting how all these ancient more civilised ships employ the exact same astromech droids as other ships from other planets and other times.
(I liked the ESB snowspeeders a lot.)

do you mean the republican assault ship, the one padme falls out of? I thought they were pretty cool. if you take them apart and tinker with them you will get something resembling the t-47 snowspeeders from ESB, although like you said nowhere near as good.
i think the main diffference between the two trilogies design concepts is the fact that ralph mcquarrie and joe johnstone no longer work on the films, and they were extremely talented. lucas has this new guy, doug chiang, but i don't know how good he is because lucas has the final say on the designs. i think chiang's taste differs slightly from the OT, he even stated himself he thought some designs from the OT "could've been better" so who knows.

even the two edged lightsabre is okay...
you can buy swords anywhere today, but exotic weapons like chain whips and so forth are a bit rarer...
but the ships are not my cup of tea, but that's not enough for me to condemn them. they are kind of cool...
but they could use a little dirt... grit is cool.

In the apollo missions to the moon, one ship the LM (lunar module) descended to the moon while the Command Module stayed in orbit. Getting the two to rendezvous was quite the daunting task. Hardly one a Jedi needing a quick getaway would execute.
but I guess they're trying new things. Way to go.

Given the fact that some cars and air planes can last for decades with proper care, you'd think that many of those old ships would still be around. Dontcha think?
Besides, we've leared that the time difference between the PT and OT (assuming we end at Episode III and begin with Episode IV) that it couldn't have been more than 20 years. If Luke/Leia's age is supposed to be in his early 20s, anyway.
I refuse to believe that one timeline can change so severly and rapidly in that period of time.

I laugh uncontrollably at this premise. "More civilized" cannot be defined by how shiny somebody's technology is.
I believe it is a simply lack of creativity on the part of George Lucas. If this is the case then, the SR-71 represents the pinnacle of American technology and we've gone downhill from there...
Its nothing but stupidity, and lack of intelligence. Its supposed to look "cool" but all I see is an SR-71. It would have been more interesting if he used a flying saucer, a la Lost in Space...
Really, it just doesn't make any sense, but hey its George Lucas, he DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE<THEIR HIS MOVIES.
If he wants to have Obiwan Kenobi fly around in a model a ford, so be it.
