I wasn't expecting much because 1) I never even saw any previews for it. (seriously!)
2) T-3 was kinda poor and I didn't know if the franchise could be saved.
Although there were a number of lines, camera angles, etc. used from the previous films and incorporated in this one, the film was overall (I believe) well done.

"decent"..huh?...hmmm, not exactly the type of critic response i was anticipating for all these long waited months. if its better than t-3, ill take that as a verbal accolade.
im going to see it tomorrow though, the fan in me demands that i must.
if they cant successfully reboot the termy franchise to where it can generate rave reviews, maybe someone can work some cinematic magic into rebooting the robocop franchise.
....robocop...yes!, yes!!, yess!! (sorry..got carried away, me thinks)
Shit, Fuck, Piss: I had to say that because I can on this website. (Thanks Chef!)

Fans should never even use the word "franchise" when talking about movies, and they should definitely not hope for "reboots" of franchises and whatnot. We should hope instead to be entertained by great storytelling.
Most of the greatest movies have no sequels, or no sequels of interest. Please noone mention THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, or ALIENS, or any of the GODFATHER sequels, or for that matter T2. Exceptions to my blanket statement draw attention to how few exceptions there are.
PS: I still think Bale was right to bitch out that DOP who was working in his eyeling during a take, and the sound mixer should be blacklisted for selling the tape. And there's about a 50% chance I'll see this movie some time in the next six months.

*****SPOLIER alert***** SPOILER alert ***************************************
ok, so i finally saw this movie today and I must say that it exceeded my expectations. I found the movie to be better than the original and the third installment and just under the caliber of T2.
Many fans complained of a lack of storyline with T3, this newest film definitely does not lack in the story department. There's definitely a rich and deep story there, but the speed of the story moves so fast that if you must use the restroom, youre pretty much screwed cause whoever you brought to the theatre with you wont be able to update you on what you missed in due time.
Where T2 was pretty much embued with black and metallic blue hues in the majority of the film. This film seems to have been shot with a camera equipped with a slightly sepia-toned lens to create the dusty brown apocalyptic desert feel that much of the film has.
The acting is great, and even Michael Ironside isnt as wooden as he was in some of his more annoying films such as Total Recall. Christian Bale gives an outstanding performance, and although much aged, the voice-over performance given by Linda Hamilton's cameo shows she tried to keep the tone of her voice youthful as to match in similiarity what Sarah Conner sounded like prior to her death.
Unlike the first 3 films where the filming locations would change rapidly from one locale to the next, this newest film doesnt really have too many locations that differ one from the other. In contrast however, the storyline does get deeper and deeper as the film moves along. So much so, that it could be said that Terminator Salvation is actually a 4 hour film condensed in about half the timeframe.
One key difference that sets this film apart from the others is that because the storyline is moving so fast, that during crucial dramatic scenes..especially those scenes that feature much emotional involvement, the film doesnt rest or idle for very long to reflect on the moment in question. It basically presents it, explains why the scene transpired, and then quickly moves onto the next scene. All this being said, its done with much style, and never leaves a mundane moment in place.
The film has many surprises, and one of its best attributes is the sound. During many action scenes, the sound is so incredible it makes you really feel like youre right there. The film is done so well thats its also difficult to ascertain which scenes contain CG and which do not, beyond the more obvious CG elements such as the Terminators themself, etc.
Moon Bloodgood is definitely a storyline distraction for the male audience as her beauty is quite captivating. Overall, the cast is well played out and logic flows smoothly as its explained how and why each character is related to other characters in the story.
There are countless homages that are paid to the franchise in this newest installment including:
* "Ill be back"
* "Come with me if you want to live"
* "There is no fate but what we make"
* Guns & Roses' "You could be mine" being played
* John Connor demonstrating his many skills acquired during T2, including when he used what looked like a USB cable to interface a computer security system to gain entrance to a locked door.
I noticed very few continuity flaws in the film, but what I noticed was:
The 7-11 still having gas prices listed around $1.50 (its 2018, and even though Judgment Day happened years beforehand, the gas prices should still reflect what they were on the day JD transpired)
The obvious wider jaws on the Terminator exo-skeletons, which is a contrasted departure from the sleeker jaw designs of the first 3 films jaw designs.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I wasn't impressed.
It's because these "wider jaws" are on the T-600 models and they had rubber skin. They are also supposedly eight feet tall. They're dumb "search and destroy" units that go down easily to simple gunfire (slugs, bullets, and shells).
It's the T-800 models that are worse because they didn't have rubber skin, they looked far more human and they were used as infiltration and assassin units. These bad-boys didn't go down to gunfire, only plasma, as seen in the opening of T2.
Kyle Reese goes into it but briefly when he's telling Sarah about them in the first Terminator film.

Sam Worthington will be a star
He is awesome, to the point were his proformance overshadows
Bale and his portrayal of John Conner
which was also fantastic

didn't kill Kyle Reese as soon as it found him
like HEEEEELLLLLOOOOOO
but whatever
It was good except for the end
was there NO WAY
possible to save them both??????
like COME ON MCG
anyway still great

That sentence is weird because T1 is infinatley better than T2.

The other Terminators were simple search and destroy units (T-600's). They were dumb and shot at anything that resembled a human shape and moved, hence Marcus.
I would even bet that the T-800 models probably would have done the same if it hadn't been for later programing to identify a unit made by the same company.
Take for example the T-800 in the first Terminator film. It had no idea what Sarah Connor looked liked until it realized he killed someone else in her house and found her ID/License. Also, the T-1000 needed a picture of John Connor. However the the T-800 in T2, already knew what he looked like being that he was reprogrammed to identify him.
Because Marcus went to Skynet itself, then I'm sure the database is all hooked up to all the turrets to allow their own models back on base for supplies, info, whatever.

So with our current understanding of technology and everything, I'd have been severly disappointed if the Terminatrix hadn't been capable of doing that. And that little gasp that she let out upon realizing that she found John Connor after tasting his blood was nowhere near a bad plot element.
I actually liked the three movies so far, haven't seen the fourth one nor the Sarah Connor Chronicles yet. Good action, bad yet cute pronunciation by Mr. Schwarzenegger ("Ah'l beh bakkh."), lots of stuff blowing up and that creepy feeling of humanity's demise, especially when they launched the nukes in T3.
Only gripe I got with it is, that by the current depiction of Skynet's abilities... well, it already seemed unlikely that humanity had any real chance of surviving in T1. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was twelve years old or so and when I heard them say that John Connor led them to victory... I was really curious about the "how".
