Escape from New York

Even the follow-up film, Escape from L.A. (1996) was somewhat good as well, although it was kinda cheesy during many scenes.
Escape from L.A. lacks the raw dark grit that Escape from New York has. It was an original tale, and a very advanced one for 1981. Kurt Russell's portrayal of Snake Plissken is awesome.
This film became the inspiration for Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series of games, as it is loosely based on the character's persona.
I recently picked up the Special Edition of Escape from New York. It contains a never-before-released intro scene, that actually gives a sense of humanness to Snake. Maybe this was the reason for its omission from the final cut. Although diligent efforts were made to restore the missing scene, you can still see some spots and wear from the film transfer, but Im glad they finally decided to add it in before it was too late.

I did muchly enjoy the MG/MGS games, and if Snake was inspired by this first film, it will perhaps be worthwhile.

Kurt Russell was the height of both badass and cool in this film. It's a shame he's stuck with doing films for Quentin Tarantino, now.

Also, like all of Carpenter's earlier output, the self-scored electornic soundtrack is amazing.

OHHH Yeeah...It was awesome when it was released in 1981. And it even stands up great after 25 years.
But since you never seen it, youre in a for a real treat.
I do recommend you watch the special edition version, due to the inclusion of the deleted scene I mentioned in my earlier post.
After you watch it, be sure to comment back on here to let everyone know what you thought of it.

Pleasance in Escape from LA?...Nah, he would have been too old. Especially considering theres a huge 15 year gap between the two films.
Besides, I like the President in LA better, he reminds me of some sort of weird mix between Reagan and George Bush (junior not senior).
I have, however, wondered where a new Escape film would be based out of, if a 3rd movie was to be made. I do think Kurt Russell is now too old to portray Snake, but I would still want Russell, Hill, & Carpenter as executive producers for the the third film, just to ensure it retains that same style.
Chicago seems like the next logical city, as it appears they went in order of largest US city on down. To keep in line with the obvious storyline elements, they would have to write in some sort of way that Chicago become geographically seperated from the rest of the US,..maybe Lake Michigan causes a great flood that engulfs all the land surrounding Chicago and the end result creates an isolated island.
I would like to see a "Escape from San Francisco", the only thing that would bother me is that it would be two Escape films being featured in the Golden State. But it would be an easy storyline to write, as far as the geographical seperation of San Francisco, being that the city is on a peninsula and earthquakes occur there.
Miami, Honolulu, Dallas, Denver, St Louis, Kansas City and Seattle would all be interesting cities of choice for a sequel film.
The next sequel should feature Snake when he was younger. I like the idea of the sequel being a prequel, being that we never really got to see what happened in Kansas City with Snake and Fresno Bob (see Escape from New York, for clarification)
I think Hayden Christensen could make a good actor for Snake Plissken. We never saw him with facial stubble in ROTS or AOTC. So, if any of you tech savvy pros want to adobe photoshop some stubble onto Anakin's mug to give us an idea of a Hayden-Snake, get to work, and let us see the end result. ha ha,..dont forget the eyepatch either.
