Plus, he was banging the drum for Lucas the loudest during the prequel years. And now I hear that Clerks II is terrible. So please Kevin Smith, sit down you fat waste.

As for DareDevil, that wasn't his doing. That was directed by Mark Steven Johnson, the same man that will be bringing us Ghost Rider (which looks great). I wasn't a big fan of the DD movie, but Johnson apparently didn't get to do the things he wanted with that film; he actually had to fight to make the costume red! Fox was afraid it might look too much like Spider-man. The director's cut of DD is much better and actually borders on being great. And the commentary on it is fascinating because you get to hear Johnson talk about why Fox had him cut this and that, and actually made him put the love story between DD and Elektra in there (something he didn't want). I will agree though that Kevin Smith really damaged the comic version of DD and they're still trying to fix all the problems he made in that title. Has he even finished the "DareDevil: Father" mini-series yet? That man need to pick one thing and finish it! Either comics, or movies, or screenwriting. He needs to stop all the multi-tasking because he can't do it very well.
So, I guess I do agree, Kevin Smith needs to sit the hell down and focus on one thing and stick with it, because I too am getting sick of him.
**I thought the ViewAskew-niverse was closed . . . Oh wait, there was more in the book that "God" closed at the end of J&SB:SB . . . how silly of me! Lame.

CLERKS II is insulting to the characters. They were supposed to have achieved some kind of cathartic growth at the end of the first film. We're supposed to believe that Dante will go back to school and grow up out of that life. KS himself was a clerk at that very convenience store when he made that film. Now he is a successful filmmaker and writes for comic books. The characters he created as his contemporaries will still be working shitty clerking jobs, even though most folks who do those jobs in their twenties aren't doing them in their thirties. KS may be insulting an entire generation, or at least those who originally found his films funny, all for the sake of resetting the story ofthe first film. Which, incidentally, is the laziest way to write a sequel. I am sure KS was as annoyed as the rest of us when Newt and Hicks were killed off during the opening credits of ALIEN III just so the director could have Ripley alone again. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

I always thought it would have been better to leave Elektra out of Daredevil and save her for a sequel. I would have rather see them dedicate more screen time to Matt Murdock andhis first lover Karen Page, played by the lovely Ellen Pompeo.
As for Clerks, well, I wasn't really a fan of the first Clerks so I probably won't see the 2nd Clerks. I actually prefer "Mallrats". Yeah, I know "Mallrats" isn't a great film either, but it makes me laugh.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Clerks was a good film. I was like 16 at the time and it was funny. Everything KS has done since then has sucked beyond measure. Mallrats was lamer than lame, Jay and silent bob were good in clerks and NOTHING ELSE, dogma was a stupid move to try score points with harcore leftys, chasing amy was boring, and What else has he done?
He tries to be too cool for school but he's just a fat nerd who thinks SW is killer and that Jay and Silent Bob never stops being funny.

I understand people not liking his films...personally, I simply think most of them are funny, nothing more or less...but the above comment seems a bit off. If anything, doesn't he seem to thrive off of how "dorky" and fanboy-ish he presents himself?

Also, they weren't written by the same guy.

How often do you get a sequel that's supposed to draw in new fans who never saw the first one?

I think all those movies drew in fans that didn't take to the first ones.
When I worked at a video store, whenever a seqeul would come out, the orginal films would always be rented out for like 2 weeks straight. People who did not see the first film often want to quickly rent it so they can see the second one in cinema with a friend.

And again, I don't think of those films were made with the idea that you'd draw in people who didn't see the first film or didn't like it. I think expanded box offixe is expected by getting all the people who saw the first one to come in, which usually expands once you include original theater run and video sales. Anything else is just going to be cake due to good reviews and/or word of mouth. But I highly doubt anyone banks on making a film with the idea, "oh yeah, NOW we'll get all the people who hated the first one!" That just doesn't make any sense.

I also agree that I wouldn't waste my time on a sequel to a movie that I didn't like in the first place, no matter how much better it 'might' look. Case in point: if (and that's a big IF) they make a sequel to Superman Returns I will not go to see it. I wouldn't give it the box office because of how disappointed I was with the first movie. I did it with the Matrix Revolutions (still haven't seen it) and I'll do it again, I'm sure.
I also didn't hate Clerks II. I just thought it was okay. The Onion review is kinda where I stand, but I don't even know that people that love the characters and love the movie before they go to see it will be garaunteed to like it. I thought it was just okay, some of my friends really enjoyed it, and others really didn't like it at all.
And that Kevin Smith timeline is great! It's so true. They forgot to include the Jay Leno bits that he does to kiss more of the Hollywood machine's ass.
Smith needs to just stop for a long time. And he needs to keep away from comics; he's not that good.
