Modern setting? Kung fu? What be I lookin like to ye lilly livered rapscallions, Keanu Reeves? From now on ye'll all be pirattin in the Elizabethan and Victorian eras, or ye'll be pickin your loot from the bottom of the seas, and ye can lay to that says I!

I be thinkin that nothin' in the dregs of this here thread be sutin my likins so we'll be startin simple and from scratch. I'm sure each of the harlots that birthed ye were sober enough at some pint to be givin ye a name, and that'll be all ye need. Don't go tellin em to me either, I don't hardly care. More'n like most of ye'll be dead before the second voyage anyhow so ter'aint no use gettin attached.

What's important though is that some of ye are going to have to be the royal navy, and some of ye are going to have to be pirates. Each of ye can choose between havin ye own ship or joining on as the Lieutenant of a friend's ship.

So, to make a long story short, each of ye grog swillin sea dogs is goin to be tellin me whether ye follow Her Majesty The QuEen or whether ye follow the glimmer of gold. After I be findin that out we can shove off from Tortuga and seek for the treasure of Tipsy Pete.

Now, here be some in character knowledge for ye as pertains to this here game. Ye'd best to remember it, fer by the time ye forget my brains'll either be 'pon the wrong end of a cannon ball or too rum-addled to recite it.

Now, Tipsy Pete was not one of the greatest pirates of his time. He sailed with Bluebeard though, and this was his claim to fame. Now, granted, he was as like to shoot himself or another member of his crew as he was likely to shoot a British shipman, but his mates forgave him this simply for one reason.

He hid Bluebeard's treasure. Every ship hoped to have Tipsy Pete as a member of her crew, for they were sure that through some manner of cunning they could get by his slurred speach and blurry memory, and syphillis, to find out where he'd put the treasure before old Bluebeard went down to Davy Jones.

Now, occasionally Pete would have moments where he sobered up. Not for his own desire, but because he'd drank of all the grog aboard. Well, at these moments some crew member always managed to get nigh to him and force his tongue about the treasure, but try as they might they could only get a few clues. Those who did gain his clues were soon captains of their own vessels simply because of their little chats with old Tipsy. (IE: some of you)

Now, everyone knew they only had a matter of time to get the information he had. A man like this, though he were only about thirty, was expected to die of rum or of rum-idiocy at any moment. The had the best surgeons about to make sure his liver stayed workin, and after he shot himself in the foot they ceased to even allow him balls for his pistol.

This proved to be Pete's undoin. The ship he sailed upon, The Sea's Pleasure, was chased down by a Royal Navy vessel under the command of the lord admiral (one of you is going to have to take this part as well) Now, he didn't know who he had gotten, he was just wantin to be killin some pirates, as was his wont as a member of the oppressing class and all.

So the battle began! The navvies even managed to board the pirate ship. Even the cabin boys were fighting at this point, and Tipsy Pete could only sleep through so much grape shot before he got to his feet, cursing the whole time, and began to fill his pistol. He aimed at the first form his blurry eyes made out and the gun did nothing, as there weren't any shot in it. He decided the powder was bad, forgetting entirely about the balls. And so he filled it more and aimed at something red which might well have been a British sailor. The gun failed to fire once more.

Tipsy Pete poured the entire horn of powder into his gun and let the flint fly. The gun exploded, knocking Tipsy Pete back into the arms of a sailor who had been watching him in amusement. Now it so happened that noone was able to miss Tipsy Pete what with all the sabring and aharring going on, and he were taken up upon the British ship HMS Neptune.

The surgeons did what they might for his wounds, but being as his blood was mostly grog and sea water by now they knew it was only a matter of time. Over the final days of his life Tipsy Pete sobred up slighty. His vision were mighty poor, and so whether to repay the kindness of his surgeons who comforted him in his last hour, or because he thought they were his crew mates, he made the map for them that led to the treasure.

And that be how the Royal Navy came to know the roundabout location of Bluebeard's treasure, and ye can lay to that. Now it's between the pirates and the Lord Admiral to put together the clues and find the greatest pirate horde this side of Barbados.

Dibs on a privateer for the French Navy who's gotten in the way of this whole treasure race thing. I'll be siding with the pirates, of course. I just want people to know that sometimes I get paid for looting.

I would most appreciate to be on her Majesties (secret!) Service, either as the Lord Admiral or as his subordinate. Preferably a subordinate.

Slade- Fair enough, You're a French privateer. You and your crew will be effing massacred if Icey and his folks ever find you because the British REALLY hate the French at this epoch in history.

Icey- Alright, it looks like you'll have to take the spot of the lord admiral. I'll tell you all about the treasure map and give you a list of the ships at your command. There'll likely be fewer ships under you but they'll be better crewed, more loyal, faster, and better armed than the pirates, and having a centralized command gives you an edge as well. Unfortunately you'll have no idea where the pirates are unless you hear reports of attacks or run across them.
