Going by Leia's holographic message to Obi-Wan given to him in Episode IV: A New Hope... is this another continuity flaw or plot hole?

I don't recall anything in the prequels that could be construed as Kenobi "serving" Bail Organa. They had a copule of short conversations at the end of the film (near the end of the war) but Organa was a Senator, and I don't recall that Obi-Wan even ever set foot on Alderaan.

About the only thing I can think of is that he "served" Organa in the generic sense of the Jedi Council "serving" the will of the Senate and the Republic, despite having some kind of autonomy (they also apparently serve the Chancellor, according to Episode I). By by that logic he "served" every single one of those thousands (?) of senators we see just as well. Was Kenobi ever a part of the Rebellion? I haven't watched the deleted scenes, but somehow I doubt he's in the ones where they talk about forming a rebellion. Apparently after Episode III he just dropped of Luke and went into exile there on Tatooine... and stayed there until the next episode.. right?

Or is Leia trying to butter him up by being overly flowery in her speech?

Anyway, I'm just curious if anybody else noticed this...

Yes I have, but I have just about chosen to completely sever both trilogies of films and forgot to bring it up.

It was never made to look like Kenobi really "served" in any way, shape, or form Bail at all. It is just another facet to add to the pile.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

Well I figure I'd run it by the nitpickers just to make sure I didn't miss something. Whenever I bring something like this up on other fan boards, somebody will rush to post the explanation that was explained someplace else (or just give an excuse). wink.gif

Then there are people who still deny that any contradictions exist between the trilogies (though I admit these folks have gotten quieter of late... which might have something to do with the fact that all the DVD's are out and everyone can see for themselves).

I'm sure a saw the two playing table tennis.... that would solve it.

Please stop brining these types of things up , as my enjoyment of the OT is being compromised at this point whenever I hear dialog that no longer makes sense.

let that be a lesson to you young filmakers to be.... Make your frikkin movies IN ORDER.

Was Highlander 2's storyline completely ignored by the next Highlander movies? I heard that they retconned the whole thing afterwards.

Well after watching the DVD (including the deleted scenes)... though not EVERY behind the scenes feature, I think I've seen enough to say with confidence that this is never explained.

I guess this is a genuine oversight on Lucas's part. We could rationalize it by saying that Leia doesn't really remember (she's repeating stories she heard as a kid that aren't fully true) or that she's just fudging the facts in desperation to butter Obi-Wan up in her plea for help.

"Served my father" in the sense of being "on his side" in some sense at the very end. A metaphorical stretch, but oh well!

Many of these contradictions can be rationalized this way... exaggeration, lying or forgetfulness on the part of characters.

I like CE's explanation that everyone had their memories erased, like Threepio. wink.gif

It'sh terribly shexshy.

Princess Leia's foster folks probably lied to her. "Sure, honey... General Kenobi worked for daddy." "Yes, sweety, you are a real princess." "Of course Auntie Jarjar is really a relative."
"The problem is, you're not a kangaroo... that's a bear... and he's in your pants."
"Maybe artists shouldn't talk about their art."
"Well kids, I guess your father isn't a hermaphrodite."
