I think this is a very useful topic.
For instance, i bought a couple Can albums a while back but hadn't gotten around to listening to them. While i only listened to 'Moster Movie', i felt the need to gush about it here (but not in detail or anything, so do not fret).
Anyway, it's quite a righteous album. If you've heard Neu! and liked it you will love Can... which really goes without saying since they were contemporaries (...of eachother). While the last track is a bit taxing at 20 mins+, the rest of it brought me much joy.
Then there's Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. Find something by them now! No wave pioneers, 'influential' (cliche'd adjective, but apt!), just plain fun to listen to. 'Confusion is Sex' is one of my favorite albums of the SY canon, and this is much like that, but y'know... precedes it by several years. Any abrasive female rock singer tends to sound like Lydia Lunch, whether they realize it or not.

I just got around to listening to this Incredible String Band double CD "5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion"/"The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter" I bought last week. A lot of it reminds me of Donovan, with maybe some Jethro Tull and Celtic influences mixed in. There's an amusing song on there about a minotaur.
I listen to "Monster Movie" a lot in the car, but I have to be careful not to crash. "Father Cannot Yell" is pretty rockin. I like the chorus---he hasn't been born yet, he hasn't been born yet, ah huh huh huh huh...
I have this Seals and Crofts album I picked up a few months ago for a dollar. Still gotta listen to that.

Just finishing up "Spike" by Agata. Holy mother of God, it's just phenominal!! it's all guitar noise and 'soundscapes' and i suspect you'll narry hear anything quite like it.
This dude (as most interested parties probably already know) is the guitarist for Melt Banana. If that weren't enough to interest you... i don't know what else i can say. My feeble brain can not explain the profound glory of this album. It's just a dude, his guitar, and a veritable cornucopia of effects. What more could you ask for!?
