Goodnight sweet prince.
"I felt insulted until I realized that the people trying to mock me were the same intellectual titans who claimed that people would be thrown out of skyscrapers and feudalism would be re-institutionalized if service cartels don't keep getting political favors and regulations are cut down to only a few thousand pages worth, that being able to take a walk in the park is worth driving your nation's economy into the ground, that sexual orientation is a choice that can be changed at a whim, that problems caused by having institutions can be solved by introducing more institutions or strengthening the existing ones that are causing the problems, and many more profound pearls of wisdom. I no longer feel insulted because I now feel grateful for being alive and witnessing such deep conclusions from my fellows."

Seriously, this is it?
For Bo Crunchnuggeting Diddley?
Stupid people of the forum. I wasn't an active fan, but I knew enough music history to realize what an event this was.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but you know he was 79? Heath Ledger was in his 20s. I wouldn't say "I don't care" about Bo Diddley's death, but it was to be expected. Then, I didn't throw a hissy fit over Heath Ledger either.
This makes me think of the whole Mother Theresa/Lady Diana thing. Some folks got on a high horse about how nobody seemed to care about Mother Theresa while everyone was making a big deal about Diana. Well, Mother Theresa was old, and we sort of expected her to die. So people were understandably more shocked by the whole drunk driving/car crash/ paparazzi thing than by the peacefuly in her sleep thing. Go figure (by the way, like most men I think people were TOO shocked, and the business should have died down in a month or two instead of about ten years).
Anyway, not wanting to hijack the topic, I acknowledge that Bo Diddley was a legendary guitar player and a founder of rock and roll. That said, I don't actually own any of his recordings. Most of his music that I do have is in the form of covers by other bands.

My point is that Heath Ledger was someone no one talked about until he died. I've noticed that after his death, I can't go a day without hearing his name. Before that, I don't think most people would have recognized him if he walked up to them on the street and punched them in the genitals.

It's like the 'Tomb of the Unkown Soldier'. Everyone knows that someone died but they don't know who, and so they mourn his death because he never got a chance to be known. A legend can die in the physical form but their legacy will still live on and that's something people can admire and respect without feeling the need to cause an uproar over it.
Although, MLK Jr's. death sort of conflicts with this so I'll end by saying, "Blame the media".
EDIT: For the record, I have never heard of Bo Diddley and so my impartial stance remains unchanged until I hear more.

Likewise. I wouldn't say I was a fan, but the man had my utmost respect. He was remarkably important.
People can throw a fucking hissy fit and cry themselves inside out over Heath Ledger, but an actual legend dies and no one cares. Tsk.

Wind Rider, I have no idea what you mean about MLK.
He was a great leader and many people mourned his death when he was killed.
