I played 1213 for about a minute before I was already stuck. In the tutorial, I jumped onto the first platform, and then nothing happened:
The guy told me to move right and left, which I did, and walked over to the platform, and then the guy told me to press up key to jump and press it again to pull yourself up. After I did that, I walked around some, tried to jump onto the platform to the left, quit and read the readme, tried a few more times, searched this forum for the answer and looked for a walkthrough, but found nothing.
Sorry for the trouble.

From that screenshot, you need to turn around so you're facing left, then press up to grab hold of the black ledge, the one above where 1213's head is in that screenshot of yours. Pressing up once makes him grab hold of the ledge and dangle there, press it again to make him pull his way up. If he just jumps up and lands again, step back or forwards a little and try again. The edge detection isn't perfect, it's a limitation from the AGS engine I think.
Rinse and repeat for the other ledges, and make sure you get the hang of grabbing ledges before finishing the tutorial-like opening section, because it comes up quite a lot in the games.
Hope that helps. Don't let it put you off- it's a great story, but the gameplay is imperfect, I'm afraid.
