Well, the product did ring up as $24, but it was a six pack. And it was heavy duty tape. Four bucks a roll of heavy duty postal tape isn't too much to ask, I think.
She ended up buying "medium-weight" tape, at $3/roll, but not before she had spoken to me, two other employees and a manager. Everyone told her the same thing: "We don't set the prices, the lower weight tape is cheaper..." etc.

If you're fortunate enough to live in an area with independent stores, you could try them first, but sadly pretty much everyone has to shop at corporate stores from time to time. That's why it's important to cultivate brand loyalty to the lesser of two evils! For example, I shop at Target, not Wal-Mart.
