I came home from work early today after all the fervor and hullabaloo. When I checked out the latest news from Tegrisome -- a lanceandeskimo.com company -- I nearly coughed up scalding hot coffee through my nose. For some reason that thing about the skunk really got me. My roommate picked up the Star Wars: Episode II DVD for me this morning like the dutiful beast of burden that he is. Apparently it came with some lame calendar too which has a really lame mix of the most important possible characters from the two trilogies (i.e. Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi) mixed with the most inane and useless characters (i.e. Aurra Sing, Nien Nunb). I don't want it to come off that I'm being hard on Nien Nunb, mind you. He has always been one of my favorite characters, but he is useless and his impact on the movies and the Universe is less than or equal to zero. I just have a soft spot for all of the figures that I inexplicably acquired in my youth. Even though I am so clearly mortified by the horrible left turn that the Star Wars franchise has taken that I lack the ability to boycott it. It seems that I eat it up at an even more feverish pace, unable to wait a second longer than is absolutely necessary to snatch up whatever horrible merchandise they toss my way. Just so I can hate it. Just when you think that Star Wars can't possibly be cheapened any more, Lucasfilm pulls off something that you previously never dreamed possible. The latest is the commercial that says: "Who do man? Yoda man!" Your reaction is as follows:
I had a great time this weekend in New York. My girlfriend is pretty damn cool. We spent a great deal of time lying around watching star Trek and Brazilian game shows. So far out of all of the visits I have made to New York to visit her we have managed to avoid doing anything related to New York. I'm just happy to feel well in her presence rather than sick like the first month or so that we were "going out". I also had my first fully alert and awake drive home where I wasn't seized with the uncontrollable urge to nap while driving. Generally we make "small plans" like watching a particular movie together or going out to eat a certain place and about 50% of the time we accomplish these plans. This weekend we were supposed to go to a chocolate factory but for some reason we just never accomplished this. Instead we bought a "Fudgie the Whale" cake for her roommate. It's kinda the same. If you think about it. I am going to allow comments on this post just for the hell of it. It's like a test of sorts. Okay, that totally didn't work at all. Never mind.
Replies: 26 People Love Me! Okay, looks like I got it to work with a little help from Laura! Thanks, Laura! Posted by Chefelf @ 11/13/2002 04:30 PM EST The Yoda commercial is commemorating something truly horrible. It's like if they made a humorous commercial about the holocaust. Posted by Paul @ 11/13/2002 04:41 PM EST Or if they sold commemorative coins of that time your grandmother died in that fire. Posted by Chefelf @ 11/13/2002 04:47 PM EST I hate the idea of doing "New York things". it goes against everything i stand for. Thank you Nate. You are truly a patriot. You were watching ST:TNG, i hope? Just a fun fact, my english teacher kept talking about star wars in class today and comparing it to Paradise Lost, and he mentioned Episodes 1 and 2, and it was terribly dissapointing. Just a fun fact, lmao. Posted by Rory @ 11/13/2002 10:47 PM EST I went to the Hershey chocolate factory last weekend. Big vats of melting chocolate..MMMMMMMM!!! Posted by Attaboy @ 11/14/2002 09:06 AM EST P.S. Your french is divine. Posted by Attaboy @ 11/14/2002 09:07 AM EST Chocolate factories are such a good idea. Posted by Chefelf @ 11/14/2002 12:26 PM EST P.S. What french? Posted by Chefelf @ 11/14/2002 12:26 PM EST Your French-Canadian national anthem silly....unless of course you just copied it off the web...then I take it back. Posted by Attaboy @ 11/15/2002 08:44 AM EST i dunno. i wanted to write something, so i did. yea, i'm sorry for this random outburst. Posted by Boleyn @ 11/16/2002 05:15 PM EST and yes chocolate factories are such a good idea. and i don't even eat chocolate. Posted by Boleyn @ 11/16/2002 05:16 PM EST i would like the fact that you posted the canadian anthem, except for i can't speak/read/understand french. can i get a translation? Posted by Boleyn @ 11/16/2002 06:13 PM EST PUZZLE TIME! Can you rearrange the letters below to make the English translation of the Canadian national anthem? ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Hint: You may have to use some letters more than once! Posted by Yahtzee @ 11/17/2002 01:07 PM EST I had to sing that bastard in french and english! Posted by Attaboy @ 11/19/2002 03:18 PM EST
O Canada! Posted by Chefelf @ 11/20/2002 03:43 PM EST There are like three more verses or something but who's ever heard those verses? I'm just going by your standard verses you'd hear before a hockey game. Posted by Chefelf @ 11/20/2002 03:44 PM EST I'm going to Toronto in April if that counts. Then again, Spanish is the language I'm taking for school. I should probably learn a few French phrases...besides obscenities. Posted by Nicole @ 11/21/2002 05:41 PM EST Cool, I like it in Toronto. I am amazed that there is someone that isn't from the L&E message board that is commenting on this site. It is still weird to think that people actually read this site and don't know me. Posted by Chefelf @ 11/24/2002 10:56 PM EST I also had to sing the national anthem in French and English (alternating days) in my grade four and grade five classrooms. Tragically, this was before I spoke French or even knew the words, so when it was "Sing in French" day I would make sounds that vaguely approximated the music coming over the loudspeaker, and longed for "sing in English" day. By the by: the French version? Really kind of bloodthirsty! Posted by Jen @ 11/25/2002 12:57 PM EST It's because of Canada's warmongerish past. I wish they made us sing the national anthem in like Portuguese or something when I was in school. It would have been so much more fun to just have to memorize some cool sounding syllables Posted by Chefelf @ 11/25/2002 02:26 PM EST
